kde-desktop

Version 2026.152.2006
Repo superproject

Bare-metal KDE Plasma desktop with an SDDM display manager that boots a real GPU seat into a graphical KDE login. Bare-metal KDE Plasma desktop for a graphical workstation (host or VM guest with a real GPU output). Composes the shared kde-shell layer (the SDDM-free Plasma session: plasma-desktop deps-puller + core components + curated apps) and adds the display-manager half: SDDM plus the workstation-only extras that would only bloat the headless streaming pod (system monitor, browser integration, firewall/thunderbolt KCMs, kwallet, kdeconnect, bluetooth, partition tools, media players). The layer sets the systemd default to graphical.target so a real GPU output lights up a KDE login. CachyOS theming/settings live in the separate cachyos-kde-settings layer (bare-metal seat only — NOT part of the headless streaming pod path); audio in pipewire; fonts in desktop-fonts.

Only meaningful on a systemd target with a real display (bare host / VM guest with GPU). On supervisord-init containers the sddm use_packaged entry is skipped (warn) by design. For the headless streamed KDE pod use selkies-kde-desktop, which composes kde-shell directly without SDDM.

This candy’s plan: — the runnable spec charly check executes against a live deployment. check: steps are idempotent probes; run: steps change state.

Intent Step
run command=systemctl set-default graphical.target || true
check the SDDM display-manager binary is installed for the graphical seat
check the sddm package is present in the image
check the workstation system monitor is available
check the filelight disk-usage visualiser is installed
check the KDE partition manager is installed
check the haruna media player package is present
check the systemd default target is graphical so SDDM starts a KDE login on the real GPU output
check the packaged sddm.service is enabled to start at boot
